Countryside Veterinary Clinic opened in 1988 with young married owners, Dr. Mary Beth Soverns, and her husband Dr. Carroll Thumel. We quickly became the community’s trusted source for animals small and large. We have grown into a 7-doctor, privately-owned practice including two of the couple’s children who graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2017 and 2018, Dr. Julie Thumel, and Dr. Heath Thumel. In the interim, Dr. Young and Dr. Burgess joined our practice, feel like family, and are valuable diagnosticians, surgeons, ultrasonographers and have developed our exotic practice. Dr. Breakell is not new to veterinary medicine, but is our newest vet, and fits right in, bringing her knowledge of horses and farm animals, as well.

Our support staff is a team of friendly, compassionate, fun-loving members, who each contribute to the team in their own unique way. We asked each member to write down WHY they worked at Countryside Veterinary Clinic. We compiled this powerful response:

The Why

I am beyond grateful, and blessed, and fulfilled to have the knowledge and skills to help pets and their people, and it brings me happiness and joy, for I am committed to, looking forward to coming to work each day because I love being surrounded by, working with, being a part of, THIS, the best, the greatest, the most awesome, supportive, thoughtful, trustworthy, hard-working, intelligent, kind, helpful, positive attitude, compassionate, upbeat, enjoyable, welcoming, animal-loving, close-knit, family, team of co-workers, and colleagues who share the same like-minded, mission, love, well-being, and happiness for pets, who are near-and-dear-to my heart, as I do, through passionate, quality, pet care for animals, (who can only tell us so much), and to their amazing owners, and serving and partnering with our community, by giving me a purpose and endless opportunities to learn so much information, using science, to make a difference, to have a direct impact on the health of animals, to problem-solve, to thrive, to help me grow at work and personally, to challenge my abilities, in cool and intriguing cases and experiences, in a comfortable, fun, loving, engaging, culture, while receiving puppy kisses, and strengthening the bond between pets and their veterinarians, even when it’s crazy, for every animal - even the smallest of creatures.” - The Entire Staff of Countryside Veterinary Clinic
